Meinrad M. Dunn

	Rev. Monsignor Meinrad M. Dunn died Monday, May 15, 2000 in Rosewood Health Care Center, Swansea, IL.
	Born June 22, 1918, Monsignor was the seventh of 10 children of the late Thomas W. and Frances (Bruns) Dunn of Pinckneyville.
	After graduating from St. Bruno Catholic School and attending Pinckneyville Community High School for two years, he studied at St. Henry Preparatory Seminary in Belleville, St. Louis Preparatory Seminary and Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis.  He was ordained a priest June 2, 1945 by the late Bishop Henry Althoff.
	Monsignor served in various parishes in the Belleville Diocese first as assistant at St. Andrew Church in Murphysboro, Blessed Sacrament in Belleville and Holy Angels in East St. Louis.  He was Religion Teacher at Central Catholic High School and at Assumption Catholic High School.
	He was appointed pastor of St. John Church , Dahlgren, in 1955 with the mission St. Clement, McCleansboro.  In 1962 he was pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Dupo; 1965-1972 he was pastor of St. John the Baptist of Piopolis where he celebrated his 25 th anniversary in 1970.  In 1972 Bishop Albert R. Zuroweste appointed him pastor of St. Augustine in Hecker.  There he restored the rectory damaged by fire and served as Dean of the West Deanery.  While in Hecker, he was named Honorary Prelate by His Holiness Pope Paul VI with the title Rev. Monsignor.
	In 1982 he became pastor of St. Joseph Church in Prairie DuRocher and in 1985 celebrated his 40th anniversary there.
	From 1987 until his retirement in July 1989 to the Hincke Home for Retired Priests in Belleville, he was pastor of St. Mary Magdalen parish in Todds Mill.
	On June 11, 1995, Monsignor celebrated 50 years in the priesthood in St. Bruno Church, his home parish, Pinckneyville.
	In retirement, he remained active substituting on weekends and Holy Days in various parishes in Southern Illinois.  He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 11691 of Hecker.
	Monsignor Dunn loved God and his church, his family, parishioners, friends and fellow priests and was loved by them in return.
	He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marian Johnson and Muriel Dunn; four brothers, Paul, Frank, Lloyd and Charles; nephews, David Dunn and Robert Schmitz; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
	Surviving are two sisters, Generose and Adelaide Dunn of Pinckneyville; one brother, Dr. John Hubert Dunn of DeKalb; nephews, Jerry Dunn of OFallon, Dr. John M. Dunn of Salt Lake City, Utah and Dan Dunn of Georgetown, Texas; nieces, mary Allen of Highland, IL, Frances Schmitz of Belleville, Patricia Maveius of DeKalb, Cathy Johannsen of Batavia, Barbara Hotz of Sycamore and numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins.
	Funeral Mass was held at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville on Friday, May 19 at 11 a.m. with the Most Rev. Wilton D. Gregory, as principal celebrant.  The Reception of the body in St. Bruno Catholic Church was Thursday, May 18 at 3:30 p.m.   Visitation continued until 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of the Mass.  Interment was in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery.
	Memorials may be made to St. Bruno School Endowment Fund.
	Styninger-Schwebel Funeral Home in Pinckneyville was in charge of services.
